Gerbera daisies?

When are they in season? I am planning a late spring (May 2009) wedding. I want to use them as my flowers. I was thinking each bridesmaid hold like 5 of them with a single ribbon and myself have a even bigger bouquet with maybe a few accent flowers. I also wanted to decorate with them. Would that look funny or is that when they are in season. (they are such bold colors and thats what i want my wedding to be like)

You can get gerbera's at any time. 5-6 tied with ribbon makes a perfect sized bridesmaids bouquet. about 20 makes a VERY good sized bride's bouquet if just gerberas, adjust if your gonna have other flowers with it. My bridesmaids carried roses and gerberas and it looked great so maybe you could consider that. And the gerbera bouquets are SOOO pretty and very cheerful, perfect for your time of year. I worked at a florist for about 2 years and we did a couple weddings where gerberas were the main/only flower and it was always impressive! You can also get mini ones that are great for corsages and boutineers. VERY good choice, especially in the bright colors! They aren't that expensive either!

Reply:I think it will look great. I was really impressed with the wedding I saw that used Gerbera's. You may not even need to use 5 for the bridesmaids, we only used three. They are very large flowers.

Reply:I can find them in Feb. So they should be avaliable in May. Talk to one of the floral people at your supermarket they are usually super nice and knowledgeable especially if they've worked there for awhile.

I am getting married in mid-august of next year, I am in the very early stages of planning. I'm just curious how long will a bouquet of real gerbera daisies last?

It is not any different from regular cut flowers which last a week. They don't need refrigeration if you keep them in a vase of water.
Reply:My sister gave us Gerber Daisies as bridesmaid bouquets and I put them in water as soon as I got home. One day I even forgot the water and the whole bouquet lasted over a week. If you really want you bouquet to last forever, look into those bouquet preservation places. They can do whatever you want and you can display them beautifully. I have mine is a shadow box style and its just my bouquet and my husband's boutonniere--very pretty!
Reply:Make sure that the flower stems are wrapped in either the plastic tubing or florist wire to keep them from the heads to lean over. Everytime I get Gerbera Daisies I have them to this, otherwise in a day or two the heads are leaning over and they die quicker.
Reply:I did some flower modeling to help out my florist a couple months ago.

She let me keep a bouquet aftereards. It had some orchids and roses and Calla Lillies in it and it lasted about 5 days. The black-ish lillies lasted the longest!
Reply:5 to 7 days if in water maybe 2 to 3 without since they are daisies. flowers last alot longer when refrigerated.

Wedding colors??

I am having my bridesmaid dresses clover green and want to use gerbera daisies.. i was looking at red and white/ivory.. but do you think that the red will be too overpowering. the one i was looking at is a darker red..

I couldn't get the pic of the dress, but I think you should go with a pink instead of red. I worked at a florist and know that you should be able to get gerbera daisies in light pink and hot pink. Hot pink would be bright like red that you were talking about, but not TOO overpowering and Christmasy. I think a blend of pinks and white with greenery in the bouquets would be fabulous with green dresses!

Reply:Be careful using ANY red with green, the flowers would have to be the perfect color of red or you could have a disaster. What month will your wedding be? A December wedding you could try to use red and green but any other time I am not sure. Good luck.

Has anyone ever seen these two colors together for a wedding?

I don't have a favorite color. I like most colors, but my fiance and I have decided to go with happy and bright colors for our spring wedding next year. He happens to like hot pink and he chose it over blue shades. So I began to visualize soft pastel yellow chiffon tea length bridesmaid dresses with hot pink bouquets and my bouquet would be hot pink with a little pastel yellow. It actually looks pretty together. I took a pastel yellow top out of my closet and showed it to him with a couple of bright pink shades and he liked it. I thought about orange too, but he seems to like the yellow the best. You could have the dresses hot pink and carry light yellow bouquets, but he said he liked the idea of it being the other way around. Maybe the moh can wear a pink dress. The flowers I am thinking of are tulips. Gerbera daisies would work too. Would it be too much to add a little orange in the flower arrangements also or should we just stick with pink and yellow only?

That sounds great. We are doing hot pink too, but I wasn't sure what I was going to pair it with. Green is so over done. I may steal your yellow idea!



The orange may be a little much. Your florist will be able to help you on that. A tiny touch of orange (the right shade) may work out fine, but you won't know until you try it out.



If I can get the girls on board, I was thinking of hot pink/magenta dresses for the bridesmaids. Not sure how the coloring would work on their skin tones. I sitll have time, and I will try a few different things. Maybe yellow dresses like you are thinking with the pink flowers.

Reply:very nice colors for a spring wedding. I think it would look nice to maybe add a few other colors just as accent colors to the main pink and yellows. Almost any other color would work, I would stick with the accent colors being either a pastel or a bold shade though. Too many shades and colors might get look too busy. keep it simple and it will look Beautiful!

Reply:I'd nix the hot pink dress idea, you could have a hot pink sash or something on the dress...but hot pink doesn't look good on everyone and I'm not sure how your pics would turn out if everyone was in a hot pink dress. I do like the colors together though, so I'd go with hot pink as the extra for the flowers, bows, etc. It'll be beautiful, then he can have a hot pink flower too and a hot pink tie. I'd go to a flower shop and see how the orange would look with it, but it might be a little much with an orange and a hot pink and a yellow. Just my opinion! Congrats on the upcoming event! At least your FI has an opinion, mine just says he'll show up!

Reply:I think if you're doing bright colors you can mix the orange in with the pink. I had a bright green dress for my bridesmaids and then let them chose their bouquets. One chose hot pink and orange for her bouquet and it looked great. Another chose just hot and light pinks and it looked just as good. So I do think you could add a little orange to it if you like it. I had so many colors at my wedding for flowers so I love the variety. It makes it interesting.

Reply:Pink and yellow is pretty crazy (not bad! Just different), particularly if its not just pastels... I think mixing any shade of orange or red with hot pink and yellow would be a seriously bad idea. Keep it simple because you don't want to clutter your colour combo when it is already quite intense.

My sister's wedding colors are Red and white (of course) if she goes with a white dress without a red sash (as she would like)

Reply:I'd suggest going to someone who makes jewelry and not buy off the rack. That way she gets to pick the stones she likes and has some say in the whole thing.



If she likes red, garnets are great, with pearls and sawarski (spelling wrong) crystals.

Ugh! Third Post! Save the Date, Invitations, Centerpieces. ANSWER ALL Q'S FOR 10 pts?
1. I like the second save the date the best because spells out the wedding date, and the font color is uniform, but I would use the font from the fourth one. That font (from the fourth one) is more clear and stands out more.



2. I like the Month, date, and year spelled out (August 3, 2008) because it is less confusing than having it the other way. People would know for certain your wedding date if you spelled it out.



3. For Save the date cards, I think the less formal printed format works the best. I prefer you keep the font color uniform, but I like how you enlarged your wedding date and names. It is just a quick reminder for people to mark their calendar, and to wait for the more formal invitation that will follow.



4. I like your idea of having your save the date printed on a magnet. People would most likely use the magnet and remember to keep your wedding date open. Printed cards get easily lost in the pile of mail and magazines, or shoved and forgotten in a drawer.



5. I think the invitations go with your daisy theme (by the way, Gerbera Daisies are in my top 3 favorite flowers), but you may want to keep looking at different places for your invitations because you may stumble upon a design--with daisies--that you like better (that happened to me when I was choosing invitations for my wedding). However, I would choose a fancier looking font for the wording on your invitations.



6. I really like your centerpiece idea. Are you going to use realistic silk looking daisies, or are you using the real ones? The jellybeans could be edible if you use the silk gerbera daisies. The small separate candy holders would work, but you know that some kids put their hands on and into everything, then shove it in their mouths. I thought about the silk flowers just in case a curious kid decides to eat some jellybeans out of the centerpiece.



7. I like your color scheme for your wedding. Those colors work well together. I also think the location is beautiful for an outdoor afternoon wedding.

Reply:So far, I like the third choice for the "Save the date" cards, but I couldn't view the first one, for some reason.

The third one has the nicest font, and I like how the date is actually written out instead of in xx/xx/xxxx format.

(I would definitely do magnets instead of just cards. When I get those as magnets, I stick them on my fridge so I won't forget to put it on my calender.)

Oh...LOVE the invitations. Very classy.

And the centerpieces with the jelly beans is a very clever idea. Hopefully, no one will eat all the jelly beans out of them. (Even with separate candy dishes, it's a very real possibility. lol.)

Reply:HI, i love the second one STD2, i love the font, it looks fun, and yet elegant. Std 2 is more of my style. i think it goes with a bubblely personality. hopefuly that is what your personality is like. personally i like it when the date is written out. August 6, 2008 (i know thats not ur date..but its my birthday) it looks better than 8-6-08. personally thats how i feel. as for your cetner piece. Reply:I agree that the fonts are not clear enough for you to use them. Unless you can clean it up a bit so that it looks more professional...then I don't think you should use them. But I do think that the Month, Day, Year format is more appropriate for a wedding than the MM/DD/YYYY format.



As for the invitations....they seem too formal for your wedding. The fun design of the centerpieces don't mesh well with the formality of your invitations. The invitation should set the mood for the wedding..and give your guests an idea of how formal they will need to dress.

And I do not think that they are too formal. You can tone down the formality of the invite by using a playful Font. Kinda like the one on the Save the Date that I like. The centerpieces are adorable. Summer Wedding?

Ok once again i'm in a panic, now instead of April of next year were trying for a September of this year wedding. I have a pure white dress and my maid of honor is going to wear either a light blue dress or a lilac dress. I have included pictures of the dress. I was thinking a bright mixture of gerbera daisies but what other flowers would go with these colors? Also which dress color is prettier, i'm stuck between the 2. I love the periwinkle color. Perhaps your wedding colors could be champagne and the periwinkle blue. That would be a lovely combination.

Reply:Really love the dress, prefer peri, especially for a Sept. wedding date. If the date is first part of Sept. you could still use flowers of late summer, and probably get a great price on them. The end of Sept. I would use more of fall colors.

Google flowers by season. Lots of ideas for flowers. I do like the gerbera daisies idea, dahlia, mums are a great mixer.
