Bridal Veil: Two Questions.?

I am having an English Garden wedding, but am not being strict with the old-world theme, and am including fun/unexpected touches along with traditional/heritage-based touches. My colors are kiwi, pale pink, white, and silver. The wedding flower is kiwi-center pale pink gerberas, the bridesmaids will have crystal accents in their floral bouqet, while I will have a crystal bouqet. I hadn't intended to wear a veil, but while hunting for a photographer, I came across this wedding album:

http://noelhadley.com/nhp/index.html (Under the 'Unions' section, choose 'Sam and Nina'). In photos 8, 9, 10, 11, and

13 you get an idea of the veil and how it looks. Is that too 20s for my theme, or would it work? If so, how would be the best way to make it (I see the basics, but need steps and measurments, etc), or where could I find on like it?

I have a feeling it's too 20s...

Here's some of my wedding things to give you a feel for it:

Bridal Veil: Two Questions.?
I think you could pull it off! At first I was thinking it was too 20's but really it's not. With your simply elegant dress the veil would add just the right touch, even for a garden wedding. I really actually think, the garden part makes it more appropriate. It's simple and classy and that can be done anytime, anywhere, any how!

Wear it!
Reply:I think that it's a nice veil - but when I think of english garden I think of a long flowing veil with the dress that you have...but, either one could work. I would suggest you take the dress to a bridal shop and try on different style veils. How it looks with one dress can look a lot different with another. Just go with the one that makes you feel the most beautiful! ?
Reply:i love it - i don't have a 20's theme and im looking for a birdcage veil myself - it's very classy and elegant - go for it!
Reply:Im not a fan of veils in the first place but I dont think it is too 1920's I think it is kind of fun actually. If you love it you should wear it.

Flowers for wedding?

I have always wanted white gerberas with the black centre for my wedding flowers.

Unfortunately because I am wearing a white dress I have been advised by my photographer and by my florist that the flowers will not photograph well becasue it will be white on white.

What flowers did you have for your wedding?
Flowers for wedding?
I saw this on a web site you might like it.

http://www.sweetmeadowsflorist.com/produ...

I had white silk flowers surrounded by lots of greenery and a few bright pink silk flowers
Reply:Our colours were lilac, pink, yellow and light teal. I had a European handtied bouquet of just a variety of beautiful flowers in all those colours - a few roses, carnations, stargazer lily, alstromeria, other lilies, etc.
Reply:I plan to have my bouquet be peachpink roses (sentimental value: my now fiance bought me a bouquet of peachpink roses when we were just friends, and then he filled the engagement location with peachpink roses for the proposal), and then have my women carry either pink gerberas or pink hydrangea wrapped in ribbon.

(our clothing colors are ocean blue and platinum)
Reply:Most flowers for the bride is white so there is no big deal just have them put greens around the edges and add small flowers of the colors of your wedding. I did all white flowers with little red roses for color with greens as the border to show it was heart shaped and my flowers showed up great.
Reply:My daughter used hot pink gerbera daisies for her wedding bouquet and the photos were absolutly beautiful. The hot pink against her white gown made such a picture-perfect contrast.
Reply:Have what you want If I ever get married I'm having gerbera's
Reply:White on white. My colors were white and gold. Just make sure that the bouquet has enough greenery in it, and you'll have no problems!!
Reply:Calla Lillies and blue Gerber Daisies, They were beautiful!
Reply:Nonsense! Go with the white Gerber's, add some orchids and some soft pink Calla Lilies, and some highlights with maybe like very pale pink, light green or ivory or combination colors of all these soft hues of roses for a soft hue and insert green Ivy for filler and add silver or gold or crystal sprays of beads at random and adorn it with a silver or gold ribbon at the base and around the stems for a beautiful bouquet! Remember this is "Your" special day! Your suppose to have the things that are part of "your" dream day! Professionals are suppose to make suggestions of what would look best and give you advice on how to incorporate the things you like best so that it coordinates and that it's presented in an elegant and classic way and not just tell you to change your plans"! Go with your likes and find people who are willing to make that special day happen for you surrounded with the things and those you love! Congrats and Good Luck!
Reply:i carried 2 trumpet lillies that were silk flowers and i took fabric paint in burgandy and painted the edges.
Reply:I had white and red gerbera daisies, but my dress was ivory...there is no such thing as a pure white gerbera daisy. They will be off white or cream colored....

http://images1.comstock.com/Imagewarehou...

What's your other color? You can do both colors, maybe just a couple of the accent with mostly white daisies, and then for the bridesmaids do all the accent color....

Do what makes you happy though, don't listen to some stupid photographer or florist....it's your wedding.
Reply:i am getting married in jan next year and i will behaving my b/maids ivory so there flower will be with soft pinks and my flowers will be white and my dress is white. i will be including greenery. change your florist or tell her how u want it. and make sure she does it
Reply:You can do a couple things there, either do what you want and find out if they can digitally enhance the flowers, or ask the florist to lightly tint the edges with pink or blue or something. They can either spray it with flower paint, or put them in water with some food coloring for a day or two to tint the petals.
Reply:That is so dumb, just have the florist (a new one!!!) be sure to surround the periphery of the bouquet with greenery and accent with black ribbon bows or some other black thing which you find attractive. Honestly, if your florist can't figure out how to make these flowers work for you, you need one who is actually creative!!!
Reply:i think you should still pick the gerberas in a different color. i had pink roses with gardenias.
Reply:I had white tulips against my white dress.
Reply:find a new flower person and a new photographer, there not creative enough. there are ways to do it.

What to bring when meeting boyfriend's mother for the first time?

I'm at a loss. I've been dating this guy for a few months now and I'm meeting his mom later today for the first time. Usually I would bring a nice bottle of wine or something but she is a recovering alcoholic so that's out. I was thinking a nice bunch of gerbera daisies and some cookies? We're staying at their vacation place all holiday weekend and she already has tons of candles and such. She likes garden things (windchimes and lawn decorations) but I think that would be weird as a "meet the parent" gift.

Ideas?
What to bring when meeting boyfriend's mother for the first time?
Nude photos of you taken by your ex.
Reply:I think you should get her a nice bunch of daisies or roses. White roses would look the prettiest, as red roses is a romantic gift. Also, I do know you can get differnent colour roses like yellow and pink as well, so maybe you can get a mixed bunch? Also, a small box of expensive chocolates, doesn't have to be that expensive though, say $20 dollars. Or, go to a place where you can pick a mix of chocolates. Also, ask your boyfriend what she may like.
Reply:Why not? If she likes those kind of things than she's going to like you even more. Just get to know her even more she's a human being just like you. You need to be in her shoes if someone brought you something you really like would you appreciate it or would you think this person being strange. Don't worry about it. Go ahead, and give her seeds, or a plant that she can have in the house as well. Their's nothing wrong with plants.
Reply:No idea, but someday I'll have to meet the parents too, I'll keep an eye on the question. I would guess something thoughtful, but not overly dramatic...a small, simple set of wind chimes might do it since you said she likes them.
Reply:I would just go with chocolates or cookies. Not the cheap kind..i dont mean like oreos, something classy but not superrr elegant. Why dont you ask your boyfriend what he thinks is best?
Reply:How old are you?

Planning My Dream Wedding :) Hows this sound?

I have always dreamed of my colors being magenta/orange/yellow... My flowers will be gerbera daisies (you know- those really big daisies) in those colors.

Theres a neat little place nearby called "paradise cove" its basically a little place on the water with a pavilion and outdoor tiki bar and beach etc.

Id have my ceremony out on the dock overlooking the lake... reception would be outdoors.. dinner under the pavilion and drinks/dancing etc under the stars out on the beach area (drinks being served out of the tiki bar)

I would have chinese lanterns in the wedding colors hanging from the trees lighting the beach/dance floor.

Your thoughts? Could this manage to be a semi-classy affair even though outdoors? Do you think this sounds kind of unique and original? (im just so tired of the regular old reception hall wedding)

Any ideas appreciated :)
Planning My Dream Wedding :) Hows this sound?
I think that sounds awesome. I'm actually looking for the same kind of set up. That place isn't in Fl. by any chance is it? I think it sounds pretty and exotic, and could definitely be classy. I am dead tired of the usual wedding stuff! I don't want a cookie cutter wedding!

Haters! I hope their happy with the same wedding everyone else in the word has had! ha ha! How boring is that? ugg, I couldn't ever imagine myself walking down a church aisle, and having a big room decked out in tacky decorations!
Reply:I agree! It sounds so pretty! I think it would be fun and original. The lanterns, water, flowers, - great!

But, there are just a couple of things to keep in mind:

1. Make sure you have a way to keep flies off of the food and the drinks (covers or something).

2. Make sure it's not too hot (in the evening, you should be fine).

3. Have a back up plan in case it rains (a nearby building or tent).

Congrats and good luck!
Reply:Sounds awesome. I had my wedding over a year ago now, and I wish my was outdoors, but instead it was in a church, that I rarely attended, and had a hundred guests. I hated all of it, from the flowers to the food. Only thing I like was my dress, but I was basicly forced into a huge, yet pretty drab wedding. So, whatever you do, have the wedding YOU'VE always wanted and forget what others think is better or more appropriate. And don't forget to have fun, and remember why you're getting married, enjoy the "after party" life. Good luck!
Reply:Love it! Go for it, honey!!

Sounds really cute and original. I love the idea of a tiki bar, and chinese lanterns... too cute!

Oh, and it can definitely be classy... class has nothing to do with tiki bars or indoor reception banquet halls. It's all about the details and your attitude! Believe me, I've seen weddings held in beautiful banquet halls where the bride was literally ready to do a keg stand... it has nothing to do with being in or outdoors! ;)

Hope this helps!! Good luck planning! :)
Reply:omg i love this idea! It sounds great, you're on the right track. It can still uphold the classy style and be outdoor, and I love those colors together. Good luck on everything-- I have nothing to add, only because i think it's sounds great already!!
Reply:sounds fun and sounds like it will be really enjoyable all around

just bcse it's outside doesn't mean it lacks class

everyones idea of class is different so if you yourself aren't offended by your plans your guests, who are your friends, shouldn't be offeneded either.
Reply:Sounds really nice but hope you can pay for everyone to be there for your BIG day.
Reply:I think that sounds absolutely lovely, very modern and could be extremely classy. The only thing is...I'm English and so my first thought was...what if it rains?! :)
Reply:This sounds really corny!

How can it be classy if its outside near the water?

Yea its unique alright! LOL

I want to paint my french dresser is a fuscia pink..any idea's where to get the paint?

I really want to find a paint that is gloss and bright!!! I can only find colours that are quite dusty! I am looking for the same colour as a gerbera.... quite vibrant! Any idea's out there????
I want to paint my french dresser is a fuscia pink..any idea's where to get the paint?
Before you paint it, remember you will never be able to go back to the original finish (unless you strip it, sand it, re-stain it...difficult and expensive). You will also decrease the value of the piece by painting it.

Fuchsia in a high gloss finish might be a great color now, but in 2 years, you may not like it anymore. Again, it will be difficult to change the color (especially over a high gloss finish). If you want to paint it, I'd suggest a non-gloss finish in an easier to cover color.

I'm not against painting furniture, but I am very selective in what I paint. If the piece is in not-so-great condition (or a cheaper knock-off), I will paint it. But if it is a quality piece that will last for years to come, I won't.
Reply:You mustn't have read my answer because I gave you an Australian website and store! Report It
Reply:The above answer is correct. Most modern paint stores have the ability to match colors. It depends on the base paint they start with as well as the colors added. With literally millions of colors, they can't show every single color on their paint cards.

Also you are looking for a gloss paint, most chips are mat. The shine does affect the color.

So find the color you want in fabric or maybe a photo and take it into a store that has the computer that will match what you want. It analyzes the color and prints out a formula for mixing.

As for your dresser, remember you have to sand the dresser first to make a profile for the paint to adhere. Painting over a glossy surface will allow the paint to flake off quickly.
Reply:Any paint store will be able to get what you want. Beware of certain paint dept. (like Walmart) because generally they are not knowledgeable on products, they are generally trained to tint the paint. Home depot or Lowes, Rona, Benjamin Moore Paints, ICI Paints, are the type of places you should get your paint. Get durable paint that is tough, scrubbable and mar resistant. Melamine is a good product and does come in a tintable base. Bring the sampe of the color you want (pillow case, curtain, whatever you want to match it up with) so they can help you with the color you want, most stores now have a color matching machine to get the color and is 98% accurate. Have them to dry a sample for you on a piece of paper to see end results. Clean your dresser, lightly sand (prime if your using latex/waterbased paint. Melamine, you do not have to prime) Do 2 coats.

Enjoy your new dresser!
Reply:Bristol make a great colour this season called Crimson Lace. I saw it in the Better Homes and Gardens magazine for June 2008, page 150.

It is the exact colour of the pinky coloured gerbera.

You can check for your nearest store in Australia here - http://www.bristol.com.au/s09_store/inde...

I also image that Bunnings would have their range.
Reply:I really like to buy Behr brand from Home Depot. They are awesome at matching colors. Just find something (anything) the color you want and they can match it. I have brought everything from wallpaper to a pillow for them to match.
Reply:you should go to a hardware store or a lowes store to find the right shade that you need they have their own shade lists that you can look at and compare to what you want
Reply:Wal Mart has a really good paint department , big selection and the prices are way better than anywhere else.
Reply:any store that sells paint nautrally

  • Boutonniere different than bridal bouquet?

For my wedding, we have decided to go with mostly gerbera daisies in different shades of pink for the bridesmaid's bouquets, groomsmen's boutonnieres and centerpieces, along with small green filler flowers.

For my bouquet, I want something different so I will either have pink tulips or cupped peonies. My fiance has made it clear that he wants to have a cream/white rose boutonniere but since everything else will basically be gerbs (and also pink) other than what he and I have, should we match? Or should I just let him have what he wants? I think it would be kind of weird if everything is in pink/green except his flower. You guys are always very helpful so thanks in advance!
    Boutonniere different than bridal bouquet?
Let him have the white boutonniere. There will be so much going on that day, and so much attention on you, that it won't really matter what kind of boutonniere he has on. I do agree with him, since gerberas are rather large, that the small bout. would look better, and hey, it's his day too. Good luck!!
Reply:Go to a professional floral arranger and they can dip his boutonniere with a hint of pink and yo should incorporate the creme or white into your bouquet as well.
Reply:I would give him what he wants for his. It's his wedding too.

It could be very nice to incorporate a few white roses into just your bouquet so the two of you match. White roses mix well into just about any arrangement.
Reply:maybe you could put a couple of white / cream roeses in your bouquet, just so you match. good luck
Reply:Well, first, everything is not going to be the same because you said your bouquet is going to be different. All you have to do is thrown in a few cream/white roses(5 or 6) with your beautiful colorful bouquet and everyone will match. then you can mix some colorful filler with his boutonniere and it everything will be perfect.
Reply:Why not try for your bouqet having the pink gerberas and white roses and have it tied in green ribbon so that you still have the colours of the rest of the party?

Also pink tulips and white bud roses would look nice with green ribbon as well. (I say bud roses for the similar profile)

That way the couple tie together as well as the party (with colour not necessarily same flowers) so that it doesn't look like your husband chose a different buttonhole because he hated your flower choices. Plus it will look really nice in the photos of the two of you if the flowers are somewhat similar
Reply:Let him have what he wants

The bride and groom are ususally different anyway and it really isnt going to be that far off or look strange at all...I mean you yourself are even saying that you want something different I think it is great that he even is giving you some input at all!
Reply:What if you just incorporate a few white or cream roses into other arrangements. Keep all the other flowers, just add a few roses. Or in YOUR bouquet, add a couple roses, so that its only the bride and groom.

I just picked my florist and I think my flower?

I loved a nosegay of daisies she showed me for 25 dollars I was thinking white for me, the bridesmaids will have tussy mussies of white daisies and the two maid of honor will have a tussy mussy of white and yellow daisies these will be 10 bucks each so it's a great deal. These are not gerbera daisies but common every day daisies. My real question is will this look okay? I'm where a true white dress
I just picked my florist and I think my flower?
    sweet
    Reply:Sounds very pretty!
Reply:Daises are a simple, classic flower. Your statement here is simple elegance along with your true white dress. A bride who chooses this is a very classy, simple, yet elegant lady. You cannot possibly go wrong with daisies.

Wedding pictures, however, your bouquet may get lost a bit with white on white

My bouquet was daisies, babies breath, and a few pink roses to match my pale pink silk wedding dress. Amazingly, I still remember my bouquet, my wedding was in 1991!

    Best of Luck to you.
Reply:I love daisies!! Why don't you add a yellow ribbon to your bouquet, just to add a little color and maybe some baby's breath as a filler. For the bridesmaids, you could use just yellow daisies and the maids of honor's bouquets sound perfect with the combination of white and yellow.

Best wishes as you plan your special day!!
Reply:That is a really good deal! It sounds like the bridesmaid's flowers are similiar to your's, where as the maid of honors are not.

I think it sounds perfect! Although, maybe make the maid of honors the all white like yours and the other bridesmaids with yellow?

Whatever you do,It will be perfect:-0)
Reply:Hi. Wow....I love the everyday daisies myself! That is what I had 30 years ago!

Anyway, I love your idea, but I don't like that the bridesmaids will have the exact same flowers as you, except in a different form (tussie mussie instead of a nosegay.)

What is the color of the bridesmaid dresses? Why not have the bridesmaids carry yellow daisies (if that will compliment their dress), and the maids of honor with white and yellow. You don't really need to have the maid of honors' flowers different, but if you want to....that is OK.

Are the dresses yellow already? If so, then why not go with a purple daisy? (Yes.....yellow and purple compliment each other. Look on a color wheel...they are exactly opposite of one another on the color wheel, which means they compliment each other.)

    http://www.noellespillows.com/ClipArt/Co...

Here is a picture of some purple daisies:

    http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1346/1404...

Then, if you want your MOH's flowers to be different, you could do the purple AND yellow for them.

    Just my thoughts.....
    Reply:Very pretty
Reply:Wow - that is a great deal. I think that it will look very simple, elegant and beautiful!

    Congrats!! ?
Reply:I think you should always go with what you like. I think it will be very cute. good luck and congrats
Reply:I think your flower choices are simple and elegant. The every day daisies will add a carefree and relaxed vibe to your day.

    Just a suggestion....

If you are going to have your nosegay as white daisies and your 2 MOh's tussy mussies white and yellow why not have your bridesmaids hold yellow tussy mussies instead of white like yours. That way as you ascend through the ranks of the bridal party the bouquets slowly change to your white bouquet.

    Yellow, yellow and white, white.

Also having your bridesmaids mimic your bouquet in miniature but have your MOHs different from everybody can make it look like a last minute decision to make the MOHs stand out.

I'm assuming yellow matches the colour of the bridesmaid and MOH dresses though

I'm getting married in January 2009, it's a winter theme, like clear snowmen, snowflakes. Do you have any ideas

My colors are navy blue with white and silver, and my flowers are white and blue gerbera daisy,we are having our wedding inside and the room has 2 fire places, but we are gonna have to set the chairs up in rolls and make our own walk way down, but do you have any ideas on how to decorate where we stand to say our vows??

our recp, is in a log cabin with low celings so i was gona hang snowflakes with white christmas lights, do you have ideas on how to set the tables up for the recp.

I would get one of those wedding arches to place at the altar. You can then decorate it with some twinkle lights and maybe a few snowflakes and flowers...try to keep it simple. You don't want to much stuff on there. You could even get some fake snow and sprinkle it on the aisle runner. I think that would look very nice.

Here are a few pictures that you can use. Maybe they will give you some good ideas. I hope it helps!

Reply:Love those winter weddings. You could make or have made an arch out of twigs and place white tulle and white miniature lights inside. You could purchase two tall pencil trees and place them on each side where you are to stand, or joint them at the top to create an arch and decorate them with white lights and white tulle. You could also use two tall large logs and pedastals for each side and either paint them or decorate them. You could also purchase two pre-fab columns, but it would probably look better to keep the theme of the cabin look.
Reply:Your wedding sounds beautiful. I love winter weddings. They have those candles that run on a battery and they flicker. I bought one last year. It's sparkly snowy on the outside and next year, Im going back to the shoppe and get more. It would look great in a clear cylinder holder. You can find them at nice crafty type stores - where you buy candles, candlerings, unusual things. I love the snowflakes hanging idea. Tables could be the white candles and holly or greenery around. Maybe three different sized candles on each table.
Reply:Rustic Cabin – with low ceilings. Ditch the snowflake idea – unless you want people banging their heads on them all evening long.

However, the clear mini-lights will look splendid.

My nephew got married in January and they decorated the hall with cedar trees and clear mini lights. The hall smelled wonderful. They used 5 gal buckets to hold the trees and camouflaged the buckets with white batting to look like snowdrifts.

The centerpieces were pine branches with pinecones on them gracefully laid on the tables – no vases or other things to detract from conversation and photos. Nestle loose flowers among the pine branches - just a few per table.
Reply:white flowers everywhere ( this will give the impression of snow)

drape your tables with white boas and white sheer curtain fabrics. Use white flower clusters to hold draping into place.

White balloons, the small ones to give impression as snow on the floors and those clear iridescent confetti all over your tables( they will glisten on the tables under the lights)

White candles, and some pale pink ones

Silver charger plates and silverware, clear glass goblets
Reply:Hmm..I think it would be cool to get married in front of one of the fireplaces if you can. Put some candles in it so it's not a roaring fire but has a nice romantic glow. Maybe hang some icicle lights from the mantle....It's hard to suggest anything as far as the tables without knowing the size or layout of the place. Good luck!
Reply:For the area where you are going to say your vows I would say have an archway with white lites and maybe put some fake snow around.

For the reception and the tables I would get the fluffy cotton snow with glitter in it and get some little snowmen and put on the snow. or you could even get some pretty snow globes for centerpieces. Good luck
Reply:I love Janelle's ideas. Last Christmastime, I bought a couple of those frosty candles too that flicker like a real candle. THey'd look great with a clear glass cylinder type holder around them and holly. Are they round tables? Put 6 or 8 people around them. Sounds cozy and very pretty.
Reply:google winter themed wedding. I have seen tons of stuff and ideas online. You can decorate with white shiny or silver and blue x-mas tree garland or bulbs..
Reply:i love winter weddings! use the fireplace as your focal point and get married by the fireplace. you could use greenery on the mantel, interspersed with candles [real or flameless]. if the fireplaces are in working order you could have a nice fire going, if not fill the fireplace with candles!

i always prefer round tables at receptions, it makes it much easier for guests to converse with each other and gives the room a far more cosy and romantic feeling than those long rectangular tables.

use white linens and white dinnerware. you could use charger plates in silver and/or blue if you want to add a splash of color. for your centerpieces get out into the woods and start collecting fallen branches. you will store these somewhere dry until the autumn. you need to find the cheapest plastic vases you can, start hunting around yard sales for them. you'll need one per table and a couple for each side of the hearth on the fireplace.

you are going to position the branches in the vases, [using masking tape to make a grid to hold the branch in place], and fill the vases with plaster of paris, let it dry overnight, remove tape and then you spray paint the entire ensemble in white! if you want to you can sprinkle some glitter on the tree branches to add hi-lights. now you can decorate your centerpieces with plastic icicles, snowflakes, a couple of stars and fairy lights. you could also add a few small small balls in silver and blue. the whole effect is very pretty and very cheap to do! you could even buy some small birds from your local craft store, if they don't have white ones, you can buy whatever colors they have and spray paint them white to resemble doves and then anchor one or two to each tree.

at each table have a photo or two of you and your fiance at various stages in your life. we've been to a few affairs where this was done and it sure is a great way to get people mingling. every table had a different photo and people would wander about looking at them and chatting with each other!

whatever you choose to do, enjoy the day, happy wedding sweetie!

Where can I find these and what do they go best with?

I'm looking for silk burgundy Gerbera Daisies for a wedding bouquet. Can anyone help me find some??? Also, what filler flowers would go best with them?

    Thanks!

Filler flowers - You could use other colors of Gerbera... cream colored ones - tie them together in a ball type bouquet.

As for filler flowers definitely use some silk baby's breath and snapdragons if you can manage to bundle and cut them right. But honestly honey, it's all up to you.

Check out Michaels and take a look. They have tons of silk flowers.

Good luck and happy wedding day!

    Gerbera daisies?

When are they in season? I am planning a late spring (May 2009) wedding. I want to use them as my flowers. I was thinking each bridesmaid hold like 5 of them with a single ribbon and myself have a even bigger bouquet with maybe a few accent flowers. I also wanted to decorate with them. Would that look funny or is that when they are in season. (they are such bold colors and thats what i want my wedding to be like)
    Gerbera daisies?
You can get gerbera's at any time. 5-6 tied with ribbon makes a perfect sized bridesmaids bouquet. about 20 makes a VERY good sized bride's bouquet if just gerberas, adjust if your gonna have other flowers with it. My bridesmaids carried roses and gerberas and it looked great so maybe you could consider that. And the gerbera bouquets are SOOO pretty and very cheerful, perfect for your time of year. I worked at a florist for about 2 years and we did a couple weddings where gerberas were the main/only flower and it was always impressive! You can also get mini ones that are great for corsages and boutineers. VERY good choice, especially in the bright colors! They aren't that expensive either!
Reply:You shouldn't have a problem getting them by then. I've seen them in stores as early as March. Your idea sounds lovely. Gerbera daisies are so great. :-)
Reply:I think it will look great. I was really impressed with the wedding I saw that used Gerbera's. You may not even need to use 5 for the bridesmaids, we only used three. They are very large flowers.
Reply:You need to check with a florist in your city.

But gee, girl, don't plan anything til a year before your wedding!
Reply:I can find them in Feb. So they should be avaliable in May. Talk to one of the floral people at your supermarket they are usually super nice and knowledgeable especially if they've worked there for awhile.
Reply:I would use them in late spring or summer. That should work out just fine. They are such happy flowers, so they are perfect for celebrations.
Reply:I am having Gerbera for my wedding and it's in June. Gerbera daisies are year round flowers. Plus, they symbolize friendship and hope.
Reply:This is similar to the one I carried for my friend's wedding. It was a mix of gerbera, roses, and some other smaller type flowers.

I was telling an old lady at work how i wanted to use them for my July wedding and she asked if they were in season then....I hadnt even thought about it till she said that!

Glad to hear they are around all year.

  • How long will a bridal bouquet of real flowers survive?

I am getting married in mid-august of next year, I am in the very early stages of planning. I'm just curious how long will a bouquet of real gerbera daisies last?
How long will a bridal bouquet of real flowers survive?
It is not any different from regular cut flowers which last a week. They don't need refrigeration if you keep them in a vase of water.
Reply:My sister gave us Gerber Daisies as bridesmaid bouquets and I put them in water as soon as I got home. One day I even forgot the water and the whole bouquet lasted over a week. If you really want you bouquet to last forever, look into those bouquet preservation places. They can do whatever you want and you can display them beautifully. I have mine is a shadow box style and its just my bouquet and my husband's boutonniere--very pretty!
Reply:Make sure that the flower stems are wrapped in either the plastic tubing or florist wire to keep them from the heads to lean over. Everytime I get Gerbera Daisies I have them to this, otherwise in a day or two the heads are leaning over and they die quicker.
Reply:I did some flower modeling to help out my florist a couple months ago.

She let me keep a bouquet aftereards. It had some orchids and roses and Calla Lillies in it and it lasted about 5 days. The black-ish lillies lasted the longest!
Reply:5 to 7 days if in water maybe 2 to 3 without since they are daisies. flowers last alot longer when refrigerated.

    Wedding colors??

I am having my bridesmaid dresses clover green and want to use gerbera daisies.. i was looking at red and white/ivory.. but do you think that the red will be too overpowering. the one i was looking at is a darker red..
    Wedding colors??
I couldn't get the pic of the dress, but I think you should go with a pink instead of red. I worked at a florist and know that you should be able to get gerbera daisies in light pink and hot pink. Hot pink would be bright like red that you were talking about, but not TOO overpowering and Christmasy. I think a blend of pinks and white with greenery in the bouquets would be fabulous with green dresses!

Here's a pic of kind of what I have in mind: http://tinyurl.com/4f76gx

or maybe this? It has other types of flowers, but the colors are nice. :o) http://tinyurl.com/3scgsp

    This is also gorgeous: http://tinyurl.com/4wo9hq

    Good luck!
Reply:Be careful using ANY red with green, the flowers would have to be the perfect color of red or you could have a disaster. What month will your wedding be? A December wedding you could try to use red and green but any other time I am not sure. Good luck.
Reply:You may want to consider a lighter color. And if you are looking for inexpensive bridesmaid jewelry sets , you may want to check out http://www.glamforless.com/Jewelry.htm. I got my bridesmaids jewelry from them and they loved them. Good luck.
Reply:if you used the RED one,

you gonna be the CENTER of wedding ceremony...

ivory or green one is nice I guess...

    choose the soft-colour one...
Reply:cover greena adn pale pink gerberas would look nice.

just like a pretty little garden

red especially deep red would be way too overpowering. you need delicate colours.
Reply:i like the clover green and like a light pink idea from one of the answerers, Red is gonna be to overpowering
Reply:yes i think the red will be over powering also. try a light pink or light purple if Gerber daisy come in purple.
Reply:The RED would be over powering maybe use a paler coulor or a neutral tone

Has anyone ever seen these two colors together for a wedding?

I don't have a favorite color. I like most colors, but my fiance and I have decided to go with happy and bright colors for our spring wedding next year. He happens to like hot pink and he chose it over blue shades. So I began to visualize soft pastel yellow chiffon tea length bridesmaid dresses with hot pink bouquets and my bouquet would be hot pink with a little pastel yellow. It actually looks pretty together. I took a pastel yellow top out of my closet and showed it to him with a couple of bright pink shades and he liked it. I thought about orange too, but he seems to like the yellow the best. You could have the dresses hot pink and carry light yellow bouquets, but he said he liked the idea of it being the other way around. Maybe the moh can wear a pink dress. The flowers I am thinking of are tulips. Gerbera daisies would work too. Would it be too much to add a little orange in the flower arrangements also or should we just stick with pink and yellow only?
Has anyone ever seen these two colors together for a wedding?
That sounds great. We are doing hot pink too, but I wasn't sure what I was going to pair it with. Green is so over done. I may steal your yellow idea!

The orange may be a little much. Your florist will be able to help you on that. A tiny touch of orange (the right shade) may work out fine, but you won't know until you try it out.

If I can get the girls on board, I was thinking of hot pink/magenta dresses for the bridesmaids. Not sure how the coloring would work on their skin tones. I sitll have time, and I will try a few different things. Maybe yellow dresses like you are thinking with the pink flowers.
Reply:Those will all look very nice together, as they are analogous colors on the color wheel. Good luck planning!
Reply:very nice colors for a spring wedding. I think it would look nice to maybe add a few other colors just as accent colors to the main pink and yellows. Almost any other color would work, I would stick with the accent colors being either a pastel or a bold shade though. Too many shades and colors might get look too busy. keep it simple and it will look Beautiful!
Reply:It sounds great, but yellow is a color that only looks

well on some people (no all). Have girls try them on

before committing to a certain color.

Hopefully they will all look great, and you can have

    your yellow wedding.
Reply:I'd think twice about putting the bridesmaids in yellow/lemon dresses... it's not that flattering a color for a lot of complexions.
Reply:go with the yellow. and i think it will be beautiful. and no i have never seen anyone do that.
Reply:I'd nix the hot pink dress idea, you could have a hot pink sash or something on the dress...but hot pink doesn't look good on everyone and I'm not sure how your pics would turn out if everyone was in a hot pink dress. I do like the colors together though, so I'd go with hot pink as the extra for the flowers, bows, etc. It'll be beautiful, then he can have a hot pink flower too and a hot pink tie. I'd go to a flower shop and see how the orange would look with it, but it might be a little much with an orange and a hot pink and a yellow. Just my opinion! Congrats on the upcoming event! At least your FI has an opinion, mine just says he'll show up!
Reply:I love the colors!Awesome combination I too agree brides maid with yellow and pink sash you may also throw some accents of orange and silver that would look lovely.
Reply:I think if you're doing bright colors you can mix the orange in with the pink. I had a bright green dress for my bridesmaids and then let them chose their bouquets. One chose hot pink and orange for her bouquet and it looked great. Another chose just hot and light pinks and it looked just as good. So I do think you could add a little orange to it if you like it. I had so many colors at my wedding for flowers so I love the variety. It makes it interesting.
Reply:I've never seen anyone do that, but I think the hott pink %26amp;%26amp; yellow would go great together! I love that it's different %26amp;%26amp; not the same old wedding colors over and over!!

    Good luck with your wedding
Reply:they go together, think of tri-colour frangipanis
    Reply:I would add the orange
Reply:Pink and yellow is pretty crazy (not bad! Just different), particularly if its not just pastels... I think mixing any shade of orange or red with hot pink and yellow would be a seriously bad idea. Keep it simple because you don't want to clutter your colour combo when it is already quite intense.

    Bridal Jewelry with Red accents?

My sister's wedding colors are Red and white (of course) if she goes with a white dress without a red sash (as she would like)

Has anyone seen pretty RED jewelery for brides? Show me pictures please. I tried going on ebay and google search, but nothing that looked nice, most looked very cheap.

Please post links. Your help is greatly appreciated.

    Her theme is gerbera daisies.

She liked this...the only problem is that it is not in red.

Ugh! Third Post! Save the Date, Invitations, Centerpieces. ANSWER ALL Q'S FOR 10 pts?
    1. I like the second save the date the best because spells out the wedding date, and the font color is uniform, but I would use the font from the fourth one. That font (from the fourth one) is more clear and stands out more.

    2. I like the Month, date, and year spelled out (August 3, 2008) because it is less confusing than having it the other way. People would know for certain your wedding date if you spelled it out.

    3. For Save the date cards, I think the less formal printed format works the best. I prefer you keep the font color uniform, but I like how you enlarged your wedding date and names. It is just a quick reminder for people to mark their calendar, and to wait for the more formal invitation that will follow.

    4. I like your idea of having your save the date printed on a magnet. People would most likely use the magnet and remember to keep your wedding date open. Printed cards get easily lost in the pile of mail and magazines, or shoved and forgotten in a drawer.

    5. I think the invitations go with your daisy theme (by the way, Gerbera Daisies are in my top 3 favorite flowers), but you may want to keep looking at different places for your invitations because you may stumble upon a design--with daisies--that you like better (that happened to me when I was choosing invitations for my wedding). However, I would choose a fancier looking font for the wording on your invitations.

    6. I really like your centerpiece idea. Are you going to use realistic silk looking daisies, or are you using the real ones? The jellybeans could be edible if you use the silk gerbera daisies. The small separate candy holders would work, but you know that some kids put their hands on and into everything, then shove it in their mouths. I thought about the silk flowers just in case a curious kid decides to eat some jellybeans out of the centerpiece.

    7. I like your color scheme for your wedding. Those colors work well together. I also think the location is beautiful for an outdoor afternoon wedding.

    8. Congrats on your upcoming wedding, good luck with your choices, and I wish you the best!
Reply:So far, I like the third choice for the "Save the date" cards, but I couldn't view the first one, for some reason.

The third one has the nicest font, and I like how the date is actually written out instead of in xx/xx/xxxx format.

(I would definitely do magnets instead of just cards. When I get those as magnets, I stick them on my fridge so I won't forget to put it on my calender.)

    Oh...LOVE the invitations. Very classy.

And the centerpieces with the jelly beans is a very clever idea. Hopefully, no one will eat all the jelly beans out of them. (Even with separate candy dishes, it's a very real possibility. lol.)
Reply:I really like the second save the date option. But can I ask why you are doing it sideways on a square card. The invites do not match the levity of the save the date cards. Good luck!
Reply:HI, i love the second one STD2, i love the font, it looks fun, and yet elegant. Std 2 is more of my style. i think it goes with a bubblely personality. hopefuly that is what your personality is like. personally i like it when the date is written out. August 6, 2008 (i know thats not ur date..but its my birthday) it looks better than 8-6-08. personally thats how i feel. as for your cetner piece. I love that idea! its awsome! mainly because i want to do getber dasies in my wedding also. and i havent looked at the other sites you have on here yet. but when i do ill up date my answer.

omg!! i wish i had enough balls to have a outdoors wedding. i love it! its soooo beatuiful. im so jealous. around here where i live there arent a lot of places to get married outside, that isnt a far drive. good luck! it looks wonderful! have fun!
Reply:I agree that the fonts are not clear enough for you to use them. Unless you can clean it up a bit so that it looks more professional...then I don't think you should use them. But I do think that the Month, Day, Year format is more appropriate for a wedding than the MM/DD/YYYY format.

As for the invitations....they seem too formal for your wedding. The fun design of the centerpieces don't mesh well with the formality of your invitations. The invitation should set the mood for the wedding..and give your guests an idea of how formal they will need to dress.

    I love the centerpieces!!!
Reply:I like #2 for the save the dates. Write out the month, day and year.

Not thrilled with the invites- i have to agree that they look way to formal compared to the save the dates.

Reply:I like the Third Save the Date card because the font is fun like your centerpieces which are SUPER DUPER ADORABLE!!!! I love your centerpieces gave me an idea. As for the invitations like someone said they are way to formal see if you can find something a lil more funky and fun!
Reply:i like the first save the date . love the gerber daisy theme. the invites are nice to. good luck!!
    Reply:i don't like them
Reply:I've never heard of someone asking a whole bunch of strangers how to plan their own wedding! However I do Love Love Love the centrepieces! And May use a variation of that idea for my wedding.

I have a pure white dress and my maid of honor is going to wear either a light blue dress or a lilac dress. I have included pictures of the dress. Should i replace my flowers for my wedding???

first of all,, what flower matches white gerbera daisies that also matches with chocolate brown??? because it'll mostly be the color of my wedding reception

if you don't have anything inyour mind... do you think that nude colored roses would match with chocolate brown??? and what flowers would match nude colored roses???

and one thing,, how long does the candlelights in those small glasses last??

and what's a good wedding reception??? at home or at a place with a big swimming pool or at a lake with a big tree beside it?
Should i replace my flowers for my wedding???
Yellow gerbera daisies go with pink, red, orange and yellow. All of those colors also go with chocolate brown.

Nude colored roses would match chocolate brown, also. You could, again, use pink, red, or yellow and they would look lovely.

I cannot say how long the candlelights in those small glasses last.

As far as a reception - I don't think it matters if the place has a big pool, and a lake would be very pretty as long as it isn't hotter than blazes when you get married. Also, if you live in a humid or buggy area, outside receptions aren't a good idea. As far as home, that is very special, as long as the home can accommodate the number of people you need to invite. Any of your ideas would be good ones.

I hope I've helped. Congrats on your upcoming nuptials!
Reply:Why does it have to be chocolate brown and nude roses (I assume you mean cream colored roses, since there isn't anything technically called nude)?

Why not a fun, complimentary color as an accent? Baby pink or a deeper rose pink looks fantastic with chocolate brown. It's not a color you need in the dresses or invites or the cake...but having a pop of color to balance out the neutral brown and cream, would look fantastic! You want white gerber daisies? Go for it! But some pink or robin's egg blue mixed in for contrast would look so elegant.

The tealight holders only hold a small tealight, so they don't last but an hour or two. Always have extra on hand to keep the candle glow.

As for reception...unless you have a huge home with a good sized backyard to fit all your guests, I would go with someplace that specializes in holding weddings. A reception hall or country club or something similar. Good luck!

Reply:U shouldn't replace the flowers if u love them! Just maybe add some finishing touches, like some greenery (ivy) and some darker brown or black flowers to the inner part of the display. I would not mix daisies w. roses. IF u love daisies then use them! If u do not use the daisies then use the nude roses. If u use the floating candles, a couple of hours, 2hrs tops. tealight candles only burn about 45mins. maybe try a small centerpiece w. votive sized candles. They come in all types of colors and last longer, just build ur flower display around them so they don't stick out too much. u could use a hurricane type glass around a larger candle, w. the flowers around the glass, w/ maybe some colored stones or marbles.

Sounds like u r wanting an outdoor wedding. either would be great, it's all about what the two of u like the most. Just make sure u have enough room for guests to mingle, dance, socialize, and sit! I think if it's a late evening wedding, turn on the pool lights, and make some sort of floating centerpieces that match the ones on ur tables, w/ candles flowers and everything! I love coordinating weddings. Ive done several! Let me know if u need anything else!:)

The reception is totally up to you, you have to think about what you can afford to do and what you like best.

Valentines Dinner. a) what should I wear and b) what should I get him?

This Thursday my boyfriend (18) is taking me (17) out for dinner. It's quite a nice Italian restaurant and there's going to be a live jazz band there etc. so I wanted to know what I should wear?

Secondly, I'm not sure whether or not I should get him a present. All sexual stuff is impossible as I'm at a boarding school and I'm lucky to be allowed to go to the dinner :P We have a pretty casual relationship (mainly, we spend most of our time playing xbox and watching southpark lol) so I was thinking of just getting him something stupid and random like a ridiculously oversized rubber duck (it's kinda cool, by this Australia designer and its baby blue with clouds on it with a bright orange beak...) and then a gerbera (big daisy-like flower) and have it delivered to his school. What do you think? If this sounds lame just say so but please suggest an alternative.

    Thanks a bunch!
Valentines Dinner. a) what should I wear and b) what should I get him?
To wear. Think of Shania Twain's song "Men's shirts, short skirts" its subtle yet sexy.

To give him. Something to sleep with. Cute pillow with your perfume on it and a bottle of it so he refresh it when it fades.

How can I have a western wedding theme without being tacky, using my favorite colors?

So many things seem "Spaghetti western." I'm looking for "fits my lifestyle" western. No cowboy hats, but I do wear boots. My FH is a farmhand, and also a pilot, which makes for a nice play on words- he's the cowboy this cowgirl always wanted.

Anyway, I love teal and orange. Gerbera daisies are my favorite flowers. I'd like to use these in a western theme, but I've got no idea how. I'm also a shepherdess, if that gives anyone any ideas.

I know we'll go with BBQ for the reception, but how do we do decorations? Western-style tux or regular? Boots w/ tux? I'm stuck on what I should wear-I hate poofy, lacy, western-style dresses, but everything I like is very modern. Should I go with a dress I like but wear boots under it? What about for Bridesmaids? I'm lost. I've got a lot of ideas but no idea how to pull it all together. I want to embrace my ranch heritage, not ensure everyone that I'm a complete redneck!

P.S. I'm painfully allergic to hay, straw, and horses.
How can I have a western wedding theme without being tacky, using my favorite colors?
I resent the "redneck" reference as well. Obviously that writer hasn't been around a Cattle Baron's Ball, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo parties, or any number of other places where the city society "gors western." But....enough of that.......

We attended a lovely outdoor wedding at a small ranch. It was a bit of a walk up a small hill from the parking area to the actual ceremony site. There were golf carts to drive people who needed assistance. When it was time for the wedding to begin, the groom arrived on a horse. The bridesmaids were carried up the road by carriage. The bride and her father followed in another carriage.

The reception was at the ranch as well. Tables were set up back at the bottom of the hill and buffet lines were used to served food like you are thinking of. It was an awesome wedding, and probably one of the weddings that I remember the most because it was so unique.

And the bride raised her dress for her groom to remove her garter. There were the cowboys boots. ;-)

(Decorations for the wedding were simple, because of possibility of the wind destroying flower arrangements. White chairs were arranged around a white gazebo, which served as the altar. There were simple garlands of flowers draped around the sides of the gazebo. The floral centerpieces for the reception were low as well because of the wind.

Tuxes were regular tuxes. The bride's dress was traditional, yet with simple lines that wouldn't cause a problem if the wind became an issue.)

It can work, and should be absolutely beautiful when you put your special touch on the plans. Best of luck!

P.S. If you're anywhere around Dallas, you might want to check out Southfork Ranch for ideas. They can pull off a western theme with class. www.southfork.com
Reply:It might be kind of cute to have the groom/groomsmen where tux shirts but jeans and boots. I see no problem with you wearing boots, the shoes rarely show on a long dress and you can have some cute photos with you hiking up your dress next to the groomsmen.

I had gerbera daisies in red and orange, with sunflowers. The bridesmaids had raffia tied around their bouquets and the vases in the church windows did too. This was so of country looking (even though I wasn't going for that theme). The florist told me some people use canning jars to make it more country-looking if they are going for that. You could put a sheep's pelt or whatever they call it under the main big flower arrangement in the front if you want to tie in the sheperdess thing.

How about some sort of traditional centerpieces at the reception, but with rope tied around them to subtly bring in the western/farmhand thing? If you want to go a little more western, you could use cowboy hats or boots for the centerpieces. It might be nice to have a few things on the sides of the room to tie in the farmhand thing. You could put a saddle and other farm type things in the corner and one of those branding irons could be brought out as a joke at the garter toss.

Try doing a search for "country" or "western" weddings, you may get lots of ideas that way. Here is one site I found.
Reply:My niece's wedding was western without being super-"themey" or tacky. She had it outdoors at a guest ranch, and the bridal party was brought to the location by stagecoach! She had a modern-looking dress (just simple lines, really). I wouldn't wear boots (maybe the groom could though), just keep the western theme in the decorations. You could have your bridesmaid wear teal and have orange gerbera daisies in the bouquets, and use teal ribbons and orange gerbera daisies in the decorations (my niece used gerbera daisies too! only hers were hot pink)
    Reply:Hi and congratulations!

Well, you have a lot going on. It really depends on what you want and how "themey" you want to get. Is the wedding and reception going to be outdoors? Or, is the wedding in a church and reception outdoors? Or, is the wedding in a church and reception at a hall?

Personally, I would get a simple gown. If you like the modern ones, go for one with clean simple lines. For the guys...whatever kind of tux you want...western or regular.

The way to incorporate your "theme" is possibly in your invites, cake, etc. I will give you a link at the bottom of this message. It has all sorts of ideas and provides more links to go to ..... everything from gowns to cake (western theme, of course)!

Definitely use the colors YOU like. Teal dresses for the girls incorporating some orange gerbera daisies into their bouquets (and yours!) You could have simple vases with gerberas in them for the reception centerpieces. One word of caution about gerberas.....they DO NOT hold up well for a boutonniere....don't use them for a bout! I was at a wedding this summer and by the time the reception rolled around all the bouts were drooping! Use another flower for the boutonnieres.

    Here is the link:

    Good luck!
Reply:go more with a mint green and peach color theme it will help and you can do a terra cotta type thing with little terra pot with cacti in them of center pieces or favors.
Reply:As I read your question, all I could think of was the Ralph Lauren Romance campaign of 1998. One ad in particular had the couple standing in a field of tall grass, the man holding the woman up with her legs wrapped around his waist, their foreheads pressed together. Her long dress was lifted by the breeze, and you could see her boots. It was very western yet very elegant. I wish I could have found the ad to show you. I think you could definitely pull off a western theme and keep the elgance. Think "sepia" or "black and white" as your background colours with punches of teal and orange here and there. Avoid any tacky materials like tulle, raffia, or anything that screams "my cousin did this 5 minutes before the ceremony". Wear a "destination" gown - maybe with lace detailing? and somewhat flowy? - and definitely go for the boots as long as they don't take away from the dress (ie brown would be ok). Carry a bouquet of wildflowers. Have the bridesmaids wear solid coloured, empire waist dresses with square necklines and rouching around the bust area (white or brown with a teal ribbon under the bust?). Chocolate brown table cloths with a large short vase holding teal or orange gerbera daisies. Have your man wear a more casual suit so he doesn't look uptight or out of place.

I think it will be lovely.
Reply:teal and orange ... I think those could be nice accent colors when put together, lower the brightness of the orange and the teal... and mix it in with a cream color. and have little accents of those colors around.

I think boots with tux is cool , they make some damn nice cowboy boots these days.

go for a modern dress, and maybe wear a horse shoe necklace.

Bridesmaides i would think country fair type dresses( sun dresses with the flared shirts .. I am not sure if you seen the stepford wifes with nichole kidman .... but those were some nice fitting dresses those ladies had on with the hats.

you could do horse shoe , or bucket centerpieces with daisies , and red and white checked table clothes

if you are having it at someone house you can offer games for you guest to play... while you are busy taking pictures with family

like rope the bride and groom( and make little statues of your self.... .........horse shoes... .....checkers ........offer homemade lemonaid. and ice cream.
Reply:I'm afraid you are a redneck and just accept and embrace who you are and show this in your wedding with your plans. You will never ever get a sophisticated western wedding so there is no point trying. Just do what you want regardless of how people will see it.

    African Daisy plant not flowering?

I bought and potted this plant along with two others last weekend. The other two (Gerbera daisies and Marguerite daisies) are growing and flowering well. This plant has not flowered at all and the flowers that were there when I bought it have since dried out and are falling off. What do I need to do for this plant?
    African Daisy plant not flowering?
Osteospermum bloom, rest, bloom. They like full sun and regular fertilizing (every 2 weeks.) They don't like being crowded - I get the impression you have them in a pot with gerberas and marguerites - prefer being planted in the ground.

Gerberas are perennial in zone 8. Osteos are annual.
Reply:Take the plant back to the Nursery it is a naughty plant! African Daisy generally thrive in Las Vegas. Better luck.

  • Picnic reception help?

Hello need some feed back other than mother... my fiance and I are getting married in July, we want simple since he will only be in town for 9 days(in the Navy) Is it appropriate to have the reception the following day? I want a picnic theme(at the park we had our first date) so far I have a long sheet about 15yds to makeshift a banquet table and each person will have their own blanket to sit on. (couples will share) our colors are white and turquoise. I'm getting negative feed back that its in appropriate to have my guest sit on the floor..is it?? We are being catered by a taco truck(lol) and instead of a traditional wedding cake we will have a full sheet fruit tart. Still can't think of what kind of flowers..maybe gerbera daisies...(but what colors)Please help..getting stressed, can't talk with fiance he's on deployment so its all left up to me.( only his family and mine about 30people)
    Picnic reception help?
I personally do not think its appropriate to have your reception the following day, I think you could still have your picnic theme reception, however I think it would be better if you ate at a picnic table, it will be more comfortable for everyone at your reception.
Reply:Nothing wrong in theory with a picnic reception, it sounds cute. just make sure you think everything through.

Reception the next day: A tiny intimate ceremony and a reception with more guests the next day is a very common thing.

guests on the ground: Who are your guests? Asking kids and young people to sit on the ground is fine, but if you have elderly people (grandparents? aunts and uncles? parents?

) attending they might not be able to get up and down from the ground easily or comfortablly. You need to think very carefully about your guest list and see if this is realistic. Is there a picnic table at the park you can be nearby to give a seating option ? our maybe you need to bring a table and chairs to have an old people table. A picnic on the ground is a cute idea but might not be as fun for your guests as for you. If you are worried about costs, renting tables and chairs for some (or all ) of the guests wont break the bank and might even be cheaper than buying matching picnic blankets for everyone.

Regardless, be sure to communicate clearly to all the guests the casualness of the event. No one will care that it is casual (many will prefer it) as long as they know in advance.

Decor: I would choose yellow and white flowers to go with your color scheme. or, pails of multicolored wild flowers to go with the picnic theme.

good luck, and dont stress out. You have plenty of time.

When should i put flowers in h2o?

i'm doing my own centerpieces for my wedding. i'm just placing loose stems of various flowers into vases w/ water. gerberas, spider mums, and orchids. my flowers will be shipped to me thurs. should i put them in the vases thurs, fri, or sat?
When should i put flowers in h2o?
Hi. As soon as you get them....unwrap them, cut the stems a little (1 inch or so); and place in cool water with the right amount of "floral food." You can buy floral food at places like Walmart or any home center store. (I simply used clean plastic buckets). Then, keep the flowers in a cool place, but I would not refrigerate. And I certainly would not freeze the flowers as someone suggested. Just keep in a cool (air conditioned?) place and they should be fine.

I did this with flowers I ordered for my son's wedding (250 roses!), and it worked out beautifully!
Reply:I would put them in the freezer until the day of your wedding and then put them in the vases before the wedding. They'll stay fresh and look their best.
Reply:put them in water as soon as you get them and they will stay fresh longer

I can't keep my plants flowering.?

I think I have a black thumb. All the flowers die off of my plants within a few days of purchase. I got some lillies, gerbera daisies, hydrangeas and some fluerette mums about a week ago and none of them have flowers left. The green parts are healthy. What am I doing wrong???

Also, I purchased them from differents stores.
I can't keep my plants flowering.?
it helps to wear gloves when handleing certain plants cuase if finger oil comes of your skin and touchs the leaves or stems it kills the flowers cuase the other day i was transplanting my lillies i forgot to wear my gloves and i touched the plant when i was transplanting i noticed that the next day my flowers were dead or even starting to die
Reply:There are lots of reasons for this. Most flower plants are either imported or "forced" under artificial conditions such as heat and 24 hour light. When they bloom they are removed and sold to stores. They do look very nice, and that is why you buy them. My advice is, do not buy a plant in bloom, buy them in bud. The chances are that these have been in bloom for quite a long time before you bought it, and therefore nearing it's end. just leave them now, the Dasies and the Mums and the Lily's will die down now, the hydrangea's will take a little longer. Plant them into the garden and leave them. Next season these will come again, feed them once a week from the time they begin to bud, and then you will have the pleasure of the plants in all their glory. Handling these will NOT kill them Good luck
Reply:The plants have probably been forced into flower,by being grown on in a warm greenhouse.Hydrangeas, for example, don't normally flower outdoors 'til July.

Keep them watered, without drowning them and the chances are, they'll grow away.

New roots won't have formed into the garden soil yet, give 'em time.
Reply:They need to acclimate to their new home. Just give them water and fertilizer and wait. They should be fine.

Reply:Price depends on many things. Geographic location, how simple or elaborate each piece is, whether the flowers are in season or not and if they are usually expensive vs not, how many of each item.

In many areas of the country that would be considered dirt cheap, especially if it includes labor and setup. Why don't you figure out what other vendors are charging and then go from there? I would be very cautious if I went to a vendor and they didn't know what the competition's rates were.

Comparing with competitive stores will help you determine the going price. Also, to make you more competitive, and spread your name quickly, throw in something for free--like buy 4 corsages and get the 5th free; or free maids small token gifts, something like that.
Reply:Nope sounds pretty good to me. That's relatively inexpensive. Mine was double that for my bouquet, throw away, 4 maids bouquets, 8 bouts, 4 corsages, flower petals for flower girl, cake dec flowers, 20 table centerpieces, altar arrangements and set up and delivery. Can't think if there is anything else. Sounds like a good price to me!

  • Color coordinating?

Ok, our colors are green, blue and purple and I'm having trouble coordinating. My bridesmaids will be wearing green, the groomsmen will be wearing either green or light blue, the flower girl will be wearing light purple, and the ring bearer will be wearing light blue. We are going to have to flower girl toss white daisies from a light brown basket that I used in my sister's wedding (we had baskets instead of bouquets). The basket will be adorned with green ivy and purple ribbons. I want to make my own ring pillow and I have some amazing purple fabric that I could make one out of. Would all of this color coordinate? We're having blue, purple, and green gerbera daisies on our cake too. Does all of this go well together?
    Color coordinating?
it all sounds very pretty and summery~about the only thing i would do different is that i've always thought the men look so much nicer, far more handsome, sexier and gallant in black tuxes or suits. so if it were up to me thats what i would change in your color scheme. then i would have their shirts in a color to coordinate with your girls!

i hope you come back and post pics of your wedding day for us all to admire. good luck and happy wedding!
Reply:It all sounds very pretty and colorful. If your bridesmaids are wearing green, I suggest that the groomsmen also wear coordinating green vests and ties, with black tuxedos. I think the ring bearer should also wear a light purple vest and tie to coordinate with the flower girl. The ring pillow sounds beautiful and would probably coordinate better with the light purple vest the ring bearer would be wearing. Just my opinion. Good luck with your wedding! It will be beautiful and unforgettable, no matter what you decide.
Reply:I like it, but I think you've got too much going on. Maybe you should try eliminating a color. From what you've got, I would say the blue could probably go with little trouble. Or, you could make the blue an accent. Instead of having anyone wear it, let it show in the flowers, ribbon, or other decorations. Or, switch the blue with the green and do green accents instead.
Reply:it sounds pretty. be careful tho. unless you want it to look like easter sunday, i would suggest deeper tones of the green, blue, and purple or at least just one.

My suggestion would be to stick to two main colours, and use the third colour exclusively as an accent if you really want all three colours.

    Flowers for the bridemaids?

This is the style of the dress (not the exact one) http://davidsbridal.com/bridesmaids_deta...

In canary yellow, cornflower blue, and rose petal--- 3 different colors for the three bridemaids.

I was originally going to have pastel bouquets (b/c of the great suggestion from Darlene mouse)-- like the ones in this link http://www.wedideas.com/RoundPastels.htm

but my bridesmaid want the flowers to stand out more with brighter shades like hot pink, electric blue, and a bright yellow. Kind of like this picture but hot pink gerbera daisies, blue hydrangeas/or some other flower-- and yellow roses/or tigerlillies.

    http://floristblogs.com/blogs/nunans/Win...

I'm not sure if it would look good-- but i want them to decide- would it look bad--

Also if you have pictures of bouquets with the bright colors that would really help.--- Doesn't have to be those specific flowers-- I just want to see how

i think the first picture of the bouquet is nicer than the brighter. I think the best bet is to just have one of the colours stand out in the bouquet

what about something like these pics, only with some yellow flowers and more cream flowers than pink and blue?

Reply:i think that if you were to do brighter flowers, it would be too busy, but if you were to do one uniform color, one that would go with all the dresses, it would look ok. i'm all for bright colors, but you also don't want it to look like it's all been thrown together. maybe one color of a bright flower, and then the same color of another flower in a more pastel shade. if you did that, like having yellow flowers for the girl with the yellow dress, etc., and then use a bright ribbo in the same color, it would look good. that way it'd still be bright and cheery, but not all over the place.
Reply:I agree with your BMs. Although pastels would look nice, I think brighter flower colors would work better at complimenting the dresses. By using colors that are brighter in your bouquets, you will actually make your dress colors pop more and the bouquet would be a great compliment to those colors.

For the flowers, I would actually try to refrain from using too many bright colors. I think the different colored dresses already make a great statement, but adding a multi-colored bouquet into the picture might look a little too chaotic, you know?

I LOVE gerber daisies. If I were having a spring wedding, that would be my flower of choice. I would stick to a very neutral color for the bridesmaids bouquets such as cream or light link.

This color is more pale yellow rather than cream, but could be used:

It doesn't cost anything until you sign the contract. If you go to someone that knows what they are doing you might be surprised at what they can offer.

Maybe what you could do a bouquet with hot pink, medium pink and light pink; then do the same for the rest of the flowers. The varying shades would look lovely together.

You could use the pink gerbera daisies. They come in hot, medium and light pink. Maybe something like this:

For the blue bouquet it may be a little harder, but you could use some deep blue orchids and some blue hydrangeas:

Then for the yellow you could use the gerbera daisies, or you could do another flower:

You can also take some fabric samples to the florist and they will be able to match up the flower colors perfectly. Also, you might want to think about how you want to do your bouquet because you don't want your bouquet to clash with the bridesmaids bouquets.

    These flowers ok?

im having my bridesmaids in black and me in ivory.

my wedding is in october in the evening. i was thinking of doing ivory and light pink roses. but i've also thought about fall colored flowers BUT not your typical..something a little brighter and more fun.

like these..with pink/orange (thinkin they will really pop against the black and still be a little 'fall-ish')

    These flowers ok?
As your picture from flowermart kind of shows, when you mix oranges and pinks, they kind of wash together and don't have the same effect as on their own or with complimentary colors. They both originate from red hues, so it's only natural that they would blend like this. In most cases, it's not going to work very well and won't have the same POP as if they were matched with other colors. If you like pinks, you should go with pinks despite the season! The beauty of a wedding is you get to choose the colors and the themes and all of it. It should represent you and if you don't really like orange than orange shouldn't be in there. If you love pinks, some of my favorite pink flowers that are fairly inexpensive are Gerbera Daisies and Stargazer lilies.
Reply:TBH the first thing i thought of when i saw the 1st 2, is royal albert china, its an old traditional design, and well, to be honest, collected by old ladies

the gerbera daisies look great, and with black, and ivory with add a modern splash of colour
Reply:I am getting married in october as well and am wearing white but the girls are wearing black, I'll show you what I've found that i kind of like

but it looks like you know what you want as three of the pictures are very similar
Reply:I think the shades of pink will be beautiful, however consider using other darker shades of the red family because of the fall season. There are other shades like plum, burgundy, rust, etc that aren't orange but are still beautiful and will reflect the beauty of autumn.
Reply:I love the colors! They will liven up the ivory and black in the dresses. If you had light pink and ivory roses they might look dull. The other ones are definitely perfect.
Reply:Just looking at the flowers, I like the 3rd one but considering your black %26amp; ivory motiff, red usually goes best like tulips or roses.
Reply:I love the third sites pictures of the gerbera daisys...And they are cheaper flowers but still beautiful.
Reply:Love the first one. Beautiful colors. Orange is a great happy color.
Reply:Their all very beautiful! Love the colors!
Reply:i kinda like the last picture, out of all of them,

    Reply:Yes they are very nice
