Destination Wedding Centrepieces?

I'm getting married in Jamaica in just under 4 months. I'm having a hard time coming up with centrepiece ideas for the tables. We're having 6 tables (including head table) and so far all I have is a few silk gerbera daisies per table... any ideas of things we can put in the middle that are easy to take down to Jamaica with us?

Thanks!
Destination Wedding Centrepieces?
I would buy a glass bowl to fill with water, something along the lines of:

Since they are smaller, they might be able to fit in your suit case. I would line the bottom with glass marbles... or even search the island for items. The second link I posted has seashells at the bottom of the bowl.

I would cut the gerbera daises so the flowers will float on the water or you can also think about buying floating candles.

Also, you can sink the gerbera daises buy placing a fishing sink in them and have the candles float on top.

Why don't you talk to the hotel you are having your wedding at. Sometimes they will let you ship stuff to them and they will hold it for you when you get there.
Reply:I would buy some plate sets (from walmart or target or somewhere) the square ones so that you can put some sand in them, then take a small decorative candle and place it in the middle, buy some shells and put them in there also. That way they all look like mini beaches at the table.
Reply:how about goldfish bowls with fish inside that be so cute and I'm sure you could get them there.
Reply:Hi....this is so easy and fun!!!

Nix the silk gerbera daisies. Go with the beach/tropical theme!

Two ideas:

(1) Pack carefully (or carry on) some glass bowls (1 per table) and maybe 2 or 3 for the head table? Seven or eight total. Pack some colored sand in the tropical colors (blue, sand, etc.) This is available at Michaels and Walmart. Layer the sand and then push a votive candle into it. [I tried to find a picture, but came up empty....Every time I am looking for a picture, I can't find one!] But hopefully you will have seen this somewhere. It's kind of like the new popular "sand ceremony" idea, only using a glass bowl instead of a vase. Or, if you don't want to use different colors of sand.....just get some beach sand when you are there! Put a votive into it and put a few sea shells next to it.

(2) Another idea with the bowl. Fill it on the bottom a little with shells. Here is a link or maybe you can find them when you are there? Anyway, fill the bottom with a layer of shells, then some water, and float some starfish candles in the bowls?

If you don't want to travel with glass bowls.....another idea that I have seen would be to get plastic trays.....fill them with sand, then put in some tealights and scatter with some shells and sanddollars! Your done!

If you don't want to pack anything...and not deal with it....I'm sure you can find something once you get there! Small baskets and then fill with shells?

Good luck!
Reply:Hmm....when I think Jamacia I don't think gerbra dasies.

A very cute and extremely elegant idea for a tropical wedding is to use pineapples for the centerpieces. They are a symbol of hospitality so very fitting for hosting a party anway and the smell is amazing. To dress them up you can use crystals or sequins and glue onto them so they glitter. Set otop of palm leaves or banana leaves instead of a mirrored tile and add some tealights or votives. You can even hand leis from the back of the chairs for guests to wear or sprinkle petals from a tropical flower.

This is also much better because everything except the sequins are already availble through the hotel or the island farmer's market so you don't have to worry about how to pack a bunch of stuff, breakage, airport losing the luggage, etc. When planning a destination wedding your number one obstacle is going to be logistics of getting everything there, storing it, then getting it all back.
Reply:is it a morning or evening wedding?

Candles would be nice night falls by 6:30pm.

1. A charger with sand and shells with the heads of the gerbers around the edge and a pillar in the middle.

2. table runner with flower heads and sand with votive or tea lites in holders .

3. wine glass with gerbera head floating in it, with silk or fresh vines trailing the neck of the glass with butterflies(artificial of course) glued to the vine with tea lites in clear plastic containers at the base (plastic containers generate less heat than the metal tea lite containers).

4. ginger lillies clustered in a glass vase with foliage and twigs or curly willow-all available in Jamaica.
Reply:I was in Chicago walking by a beautiful florist and they had driftwood with orchids intertwined. It was really beautiful.

It was maybe over a foot long and less than a foot high. You may be able to find it online

Also, sand dollars have holes and you can tie ribbons and use them as seating cards
Reply:I would do some shells and sand maybe, and some carefully packed vases or bowls to put them in. Also you could buy floating candles ahead of time; they always look great!
