I want to paint my french dresser is a fuscia pink..any idea's where to get the paint?

I really want to find a paint that is gloss and bright!!! I can only find colours that are quite dusty! I am looking for the same colour as a gerbera.... quite vibrant! Any idea's out there????

Before you paint it, remember you will never be able to go back to the original finish (unless you strip it, sand it, re-stain it...difficult and expensive). You will also decrease the value of the piece by painting it.

Fuchsia in a high gloss finish might be a great color now, but in 2 years, you may not like it anymore. Again, it will be difficult to change the color (especially over a high gloss finish). If you want to paint it, I'd suggest a non-gloss finish in an easier to cover color.

I'm not against painting furniture, but I am very selective in what I paint. If the piece is in not-so-great condition (or a cheaper knock-off), I will paint it. But if it is a quality piece that will last for years to come, I won't.

Reply:The above answer is correct. Most modern paint stores have the ability to match colors. It depends on the base paint they start with as well as the colors added. With literally millions of colors, they can't show every single color on their paint cards.

Also you are looking for a gloss paint, most chips are mat. The shine does affect the color.

So find the color you want in fabric or maybe a photo and take it into a store that has the computer that will match what you want. It analyzes the color and prints out a formula for mixing.

As for your dresser, remember you have to sand the dresser first to make a profile for the paint to adhere. Painting over a glossy surface will allow the paint to flake off quickly.
Reply:Any paint store will be able to get what you want. Beware of certain paint dept. (like Walmart) because generally they are not knowledgeable on products, they are generally trained to tint the paint. Home depot or Lowes, Rona, Benjamin Moore Paints, ICI Paints, are the type of places you should get your paint. Get durable paint that is tough, scrubbable and mar resistant. Melamine is a good product and does come in a tintable base. Bring the sampe of the color you want (pillow case, curtain, whatever you want to match it up with) so they can help you with the color you want, most stores now have a color matching machine to get the color and is 98% accurate. Have them to dry a sample for you on a piece of paper to see end results. Clean your dresser, lightly sand (prime if your using latex/waterbased paint. Melamine, you do not have to prime) Do 2 coats.

Enjoy your new dresser!
Reply:Bristol make a great colour this season called Crimson Lace. I saw it in the Better Homes and Gardens magazine for June 2008, page 150.

It is the exact colour of the pinky coloured gerbera.

You can check for your nearest store in Australia here - http://www.bristol.com.au/s09_store/inde...

I also image that Bunnings would have their range.
Reply:I really like to buy Behr brand from Home Depot. They are awesome at matching colors. Just find something (anything) the color you want and they can match it. I have brought everything from wallpaper to a pillow for them to match.
Reply:you should go to a hardware store or a lowes store to find the right shade that you need they have their own shade lists that you can look at and compare to what you want
Reply:Wal Mart has a really good paint department , big selection and the prices are way better than anywhere else.
Reply:any store that sells paint nautrally
